Nairobi Day Trips
Nairobi Day Trips: Nairobi, famously known as the “Green City under the Sun,” is the capital and largest city of Kenya. As of 2026, it continues to be a major economic and tech hub in Africa, recently receiving a significant facelift in its Central Business District (CBD) with new walkways and improved street lighting.
- The World’s Only Wildlife Capital: Nairobi is uniquely the only capital city globally to host a national park within its boundaries. You can see lions and rhinos against a backdrop of city skyscrapers.
- Etymology: The name comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nyrobi, meaning “place of cool waters”.
- Modern Infrastructure: Major recent projects include the Nairobi Railway City, a multimodal urban development intended to ease CBD congestion
Nairobi is Kenya’s capital city. In addition to its urban core, the city has Nairobi National Park, a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos and home to giraffes, zebras and lions.
Next to it is a well-regarded elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Nairobi is also often used as a jumping-off point for safari trips elsewhere in Kenya. Nairobi is the safari hub in East Africa.
